"Time To Chill"

Getting started

Engaging in structured relaxation exercises can help strengthen your dog's relaxation skills and make it easier for them to recover from heightened states of excitement or anxiety.

Follow these steps when teaching your dog to chill

• When you’re ready to relax for the night, put on your dog’s leash, head over to the couch, and throw on a movie

• Once your dog lays down, say “Yes” and give them a work-to-eat toy (like a KONG or Toppl) stuffed with something delicious

• Over time, your dog will understand that when you’re on the couch, they get something delicious and it’s time to chill

Pro tip

Once your dog has a solid Go To Mat cue you can stop using the leash and have them lay on their mat while relaxing with their work-to-eat toy
