Cat Proofing Your Home
To make sure your cat and household belongings are safe you’ll want to cat proof your home
• Remove hazardous plants. Many houseplants are toxic to cats. Remove or relocate any potentially harmful plants out of your cat's reach
• Secure cords and wires. Cats may chew on cords, which can lead to electrical shocks or fires. Use cord protectors, hide cords behind furniture, or secure them to prevent access
• Secure windows and doors. Use screens to prevent your cat from falling or escaping through windows or balconies
• Tidy up bookshelves. Survey your bookshelves and remove anything that can be knocked down
• Close toilet lids and trashcans. Cats are curious by nature, and they might explore the toilet bowl or trash can out of curiosity. Falling into a toilet can be dangerous, especially if it's filled with water. Trash cans can contain items that are harmful if ingested, like spoiled food, plastic, or sharp objects
• Safeguard other small household animals. Safeguard small house animals and make sure aquariums or cages that house small animals, like hamsters or fish, are securely out of reach of your cat.
